Winter 2025
|
On Friday 28th November 2025, 7.30 pm, in Rothwell Church (NN14 6BQ) we sang Mendelssohn's oratorio "Saint Paul".
The work tells, in sung form, the story of St Paul and his progression from a fierce persecutor of early christians to one of their most effective communicators. Though not so often performed now, it is full of what makes Mendelssohn's music so attractive, and in his lifetime it was very popular. The work includes parts for three soloists: Anna Gould (soprano), Gareth Edmunds (tenor) and Stephen Alder (bass). As so often before, we were really pleased to be accompanied by Richard Dunster-Sigtermans at the organ. On Thursday 18th December, in a break from our previous custom, we sang a separate Carol Concert at 7.15 in Walgrave Church, with mulled wine and mince pies. For this we sang nine carols on our own, together with some old favourites for the audience to join in.
