Workshop Summer 2022: Haydn's The Seasons
Sunday 19 June, Old Village Hall
Following our 2017 Summer Workshop when we sang Haydn's oratorio The Creation, for 2022 we sang selections from his Seasons. This oratorio is much less well known, but still has a wealth of enjoyable music to portray the yearly cycle of rustic activities and their accompanying weather. Highlights included a hunting scene (no animals harmed in the making of this music), a thunderstorm, and the chorus "Joho, Joho - wine is here!".
As well as conducting us, Ian accompanied us on the piano and sketched the overall context of the movements by playing some of the instrumental movements, and providing a narration to explain what would be sung by soloists in a full performance.
