Summer workshops |
No pressure, but ... |
Since 2010 we have been conducting exciting one-day workshops open to anyone who would like to come and sing with us.
This is a great way to gain first-hand experience of singing great works from scratch under Ian Clarke’s expert guidance, and, if you like the experience, you might subsequently join us for other events. The day is always absorbing, with concentrated rehearsals morning and afternoon. Tea, coffee, biscuits and homemade cakes provided during the day. Bring your own lunch, then after the performance there is an optional, convivial supper, which is always enjoyable. There is even a plant stall at the event and it’s a very friendly affair all round. A typical timetable is to start gathering on a Sunday at 9.30 in Old village hall, to start singing at 10.00 and aiming at a performance at 5.30 and supper (with bar) afterwards. A charge is made for singers for the event, with separate charges for the supper. Friends and family are welcome to attend the performance for free, and the supper if they buy tickets. Our previous events are listed here. |
Our concerts are expensive, because we have to pay for soloists. Obviously we try hard to sell enough tickets to cover the cost, but frequently we don't, and they run at a loss.
The workshops, on the other hand, are a great opportunity to make up for that. Although we don't charge the audience for the performance, the supper does make money for us and so do other things like the plant stall. If participants - especially regular choir members - can bring lots of friends and relations to the workshop for supper, it doesn't just make the dinner more convivial - it also helps to keep the choir's finances healthy. |
